Essay Topics When Learning a New Language

Essay Topics When Learning a New LanguageKnowing what essay topics are when learning a new language is one of the keys to success in formal study. There are two types of essay topics when you choose a new language, formal and informal. Focusing on formal essays will get you much further than choosing topics that will get you noticed and accepted for informal study.Writing a formal essay in another language requires that you have good grammar and vocabulary. It is not enough that you are able to construct sentences using proper English grammar. A good writer is not just able to use proper English grammar. You need to be able to construct other people's sentences as well. This is true even if your native language is not English. Grammatical correctness is the foundation upon which all writing is based. In addition to good grammar, essay topics when learning a new language also include some sort of real world experience. The phrase 'real world' seems to escape most English students. They think of only formal settings. They do not think of working in some office where they work with clients who use slang or simple colloquialisms, or learning to live in a rural area with less privacy than they would find in their own neighborhood. In an informal setting, there are no rules and therefore the way the spoken and written word are used depends on the way it is perceived. The writer's opinion determines what is acceptable and what is not. Word choices are entirely up to the writer. Since you are only writing for yourself and not for anyone else, you must consider what is acceptable to you and what is not. When you are taking a course on grammar, you are learning that language is not always grammatically correct. Language is a subjective phenomenon. So it is not enough to know that certain words to mean certain things, that there are rules to follow, that there are correct punctuation and word choices, that the English language is the same as the other languages you are studyi ng.In order to be a fluent speaker of a language, you must learn to be a student of the language. You must learn how the language is used in the wider world.Formal writing, in contrast, is only helpful in that it gives you ideas to add to your essay. Informal writing does not do this. You must be able to produce a real article that has not been crumpled up because of excessive grammar or proofreading mistakes.
